Why Putting Pressure on Family for a Picture Perfect Holiday Never Ends Well, As We Learned from the Kardashians

Don't be checking the mailbox for the annual Kardashian Christmas card this year — Kim Kardashian konfirms it's kaput.

That wonderful gift to us all, the annual Kardashian Christmas card, is officially done. Canceled. Too much drama, too little holiday spirit.

Kim Kardashian admitted the family tradition was over while talking to E! News at a KKW Beauty pop-up shop in Los Angeles. "I have to say, thanks to last year's Christmas card, that really did just f--k us over," Kim said. "That was so dramatic."

Does she mean the picture itself or all the fighting that went on while making it?

Who could forget the drama over scheduling the shoot, which was filmed for Keeping Up with the Kardashians? The greatest fight ever in the history of the show had Kim calling her sister Kourtney Kardashian the "least interesting to look at." Ouch. That drama is still playing out on the show.

And while the family loved their big Christmas card reveal, this year don’t look for it. There are just too many people. And Kris Jenner is tired. "Kris Jenner has given up. She just is like, 'I don't have the energy to wrangle all my kids anymore, and their kids,’” Kim said.

There will still be the annual Christmas Eve party which will be hosted by Kim and Kanye West this year.

The Kardashian-Jenner clan aren’t the only family to clash over a holiday theme. As ridiculous as it sounds, tensions over cards and common holiday traditions can cause more problems than they're worth.

Life says that’s because “we expect so much, and are often overtired and overstressed, emotions and tensions tend to run high by the time family gets together. In this atmosphere, even the most innocent comment or minor infraction can open old wounds or cause major new battles.”

Experts advise establishing some simple ground rules beforehand to “help prevent misunderstandings.” “When the family is together and imperfect behavior threatens to strain relations, a little tact and understanding can go a long way."

Don’t get upset if the holiday events and rituals change in order to keep the peace. “[Make] an agreement that you all will refrain from arguments and criticizing one another, especially if there are children present. Mentioning any changes or elimination of longstanding holiday traditions that might disappoint them or cause them to feel rejected,” says the report.

Keep in mind that much like Kim and Kourtney, "cumulative annoyances are one of the major triggers of relationships conflicts,” reports The Atlantic. "Conflicts are often triggered by repetition of certain small behaviors.”
