Bomb thrown at Irondale officer

Irondale, AL (WBRC) - Investigators are looking for a suspect wanted in an attempted attack on an Irondale police officer. The officer says the suspect threw a bomb at his patrol car just before 7:00 Thursday night at the Colonial Village apartments near Edwards Lake Road.

The officer described the bomb as a type of chemical explosive placed inside a plastic bottle. The bomb exploded missing the officer and witnesses say it sounded like a shotgun going off.

The officer was not injured. The Irondale Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and a Hoover Police Department bomb squad conducted the investigation.
