Irondale will celebrate the holiday season with a Christmas parade and other festivities Saturday.
The Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce is organizing An Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade and Christmas at the Caboose, said Joyce Franklin, executive director of the chamber. The parade starts at 11 a.m. at the Irondale Community School on 16th Street.
The parade will turn left on Crestwood Boulevard in front of Hamburger Heaven. It will proceed down Crestwood and turn left on 20th Street toward downtown. The parade will continue to the Little Red Caboose adjacent to City Hall.
Franklin said the parade will pause at three spots – the intersection of 16th Street and Crestwood Boulevard, the intersection of Crestwood and 20th Street, and in front of Studio by the Tracks.
The Shades Valley High School Mountie Band will be among the parade entrants. The school’s homecoming king and queen will serve as grand marshals, Franklin said.
When the parade ends shortly after noon, the Little Red Caboose at 1912 1st Ave. South will become the center of activity. There will be a Christmas tree lighting, music, opportunities for children to pose for photos with Santa and other activities. “This year, we’re really emphasizing Christmas at the Caboose,” Franklin said.
