The Irondale City Council passed an ordinance promising to jail or fine Jefferson County officials if they impose a fee on those who are not sewer customers to help save the debt-ridden county from bankruptcy.
The council approved the measure 5-1, over one member’s concerns that it was not legal or enforceable. About 80 residents filled the council chamber to support the measure.
Irondale raised the stakes in its threats to sue Trinity Medical Center on Thursday night, hiring two lawyers who are experts in litigation and health care.
