Some of the cats at the Alabama Spay Neuter Clinic were once considered feral, but now they could be anyone’s pet. They can mellow out over time, but the recently caught feral cats are a completely different story. If you have to deal with them you’d better bring some gloves or better yet a cage with protective dividers.
A worthwhile effort helping to control the pet population is celebrating its anniversary.
It’s been two years since the Alabama Spay/Neuter clinic in Irondale opened its doors.

In 2009, the Jefferson County Commission stated that it would no longer continue maintenance on any county road that is within the city limits of any city in Jefferson County, and that they were turning over control of those roads or sections of those roads that were within those respective municipal city limits to the city to maintain. However, the Jefferson County Commission refuses to turn over the state tax money designated for these roads up keep and repair to those respective municipalities (Irondale included). When someone gives you a gift and you accept it, you also accept all of the expenses and responsibilities associated with that gift. Irondale as well as all other cities in the Jefferson County Mayor’s Association chose not to accept this gift. Rest assured that the City of Irondale will make emergency repairs on these roads when needed and then bill Jefferson County for these repairs. But we cannot take over the expense for the county roads that the State of Alabama is paying (with your tax money) Jefferson County to maintain.
