Joyce Franklin, the Executive Director of the Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce has resigned her position effective September 30th. In an email sent to Chamber of Commerce and city officials, Franklin said that her resignation was due to a change in “hours and pay” and that at the present time “the Chamber has never been in better financial shape since I assumed this position.”

W. R. Grace & Co. has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy with the Energy Saver Award for the company’s manufacturing operations in Irondale, Alabama.
To qualify for the distinction, the facility reduced its total energy usage by over 9% in 2009 and participated in an energy assessment done by a recognized Department of Energy expert affiliated with the Alabama Industrial Assessment Center at the University of Alabama.

The Irondale plant, which makes fireproofing materials for structural steel, participated in an energy assessment done by the department and the Alabama Industrial Assessment Center at the University of Alabama, said a news release.
The Irondale City Council on Tuesday voted to levy sales and use taxes within the city’s police jurisdiction.
The vote means the city will charge 2 percent in the taxes to businesses in areas between the Irondale limits and those of Birmingham, Leeds, Trussville, Vestavia Hills and Mountain Brook, city officials said.

Check around your house for blankets you no longer need and are taking up valuable storage in your home. Blankets can be dropped off at the Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce no later than Thursday, Jan. 21st.
The Irondale Commercial Development Authority will meet tomorrow January 5th at 6pm in the conference room at City Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
The Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce is organizing An Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade and Christmas at the Caboose, said Joyce Franklin, executive director of the chamber. The parade starts at 11 a.m. at the Irondale Community School on 16th Street.
