The Irondale Community Farmer’s Market returns today from 3:30 to 6:30. The market is located on 1st Ave. North in front of the Irondale Cafe.
Several important items are on the agenda tonight including; a resolution to legally define Irondale’s historic district, an ordinance to increase garbage rates, a resolution to amend city employee’s health coverage costs, and a resolution to improve the cities water system.
The Shades Valley Mountie football team will travel to Pell City High School tonight, Friday, August 3rd.
Kickoff is at 7pm.

Historic Irondale is having a neighborhood meeting, tonight, Tuesday, August 31st, at 6pm. The purpose of the get-together is to discuss the creation of a community garden with perennial plants as one component of the garden. Expert Eric Toensmire is helping plan the garden and will hold a workshop in the community this fall.

Joyce Franklin, the Executive Director of the Greater Irondale Chamber of Commerce has resigned her position effective September 30th. In an email sent to Chamber of Commerce and city officials, Franklin said that her resignation was due to a change in “hours and pay” and that at the present time “the Chamber has never been in better financial shape since I assumed this position.”
A recently proposed ordinance to ban all but hands free cell phones while driving in Irondale is set to be put aside indefinitely in tonight’s session.
A proposed ordinance to ban the the use of cell phones while driving in Irondale will be shelved at tomorrow’s city council meeting. The would-be ordinance would have banned texting and all but hands-free devices while driving in the Irondale city limits. Other area municipalities have recently passed similar ordinances but opposition to the proposal in Irondale was particularly voracious causing the issue to be put aside indefinitely.
